Materials-enabled Precision Medicine
We engineer materials for precision healthcare.
We design material-based solutions for healthcare and develop cutting-edge multiscale analytics in order to rationalize material and device designs. By combining experimental and simulation-based approaches, we achieve a holistic understanding of the design space and can rapidly identify structure-function relationships.
In our interdisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, chemists, biologists and clinicians, we spearheaded the development of a magnetic nanoparticle-based blood cleansing process to treat sepsis, nano-hybrid based tissue glues that actively support the different phases of wound healing, and a new type of nano-architected implant coating that greatly reduces the risk for implant-associated infections.
We have expertise in (simulation-driven) nanoparticle design, synthesis and functionalization, nanoparticle-based coatings and device design, characterization and multiscale imaging of material interfaces with complex (biological) systems, as well as translational nanomedicine (including nanosafety).
